It’s been a month since my last post, but I have quite the story for you today. It’s actually pretty crazy.
Okay so let’s start.
You all should know by now, I am an actor. I’m not proud of out because I think a lot of us are stuck up assholes but that’s besides the point.
Regardless of how I feel about actors, our job is more difficult than others think. First of all, acting and acting well are completely different. Anyone can act.. it takes someone special to act well.
Actors are usually working for hours and hours at a time, and as you can imagine, it takes a toll on the body.
Well this day was no different, we had all arrived on set at around 8 AM. First thing we all noticed when walking in that the air conditioning system wasn’t working. It was already pushing 80 degrees outside and surely felt even hotter inside.
I already knew this would be a problem, but not for me. Frequent water breaks and time off set was needed, these conditions were seriously horrible. It wasn’t long before people started dropping like flies. The heat was unbearable.
As the day moved on it got hotter and hotter, we all were hoping it would let up soon. Or else…
Around 11 AM, we figured we would give an HVAC technician a call because we couldn’t take it anymore.
We did just that, called someone to come out and look at our air conditioning as soon as possible because our work was starting to suffer. Not even an hour later, our technician arrived and began working to identify the problem with our unit.
We kept practicing and working, trying to make the best out of a shitty situation.
When all of the sudden, one of our actors who I will leave nameless, passed out because of the heat. His body had overheated and just shut down. I think we were all on the verge of doing the same..
Out of nowhere, our HVAC technician came running into the room and began to help. We really lucked out because none of us knew what to do in this situation.
Luckily he was able to restore our actor back to consciousness where we could start to care for them.
Not long after, the AC was restored and it immediately began to cool off.
Keep in mind it is no later than 3:30 PM at this point, and everyone is fried from the heat.
We continued to work until the end of the day but man was it brutal. Even though the air conditioning was working again, it wasn’t until the next day that it actually felt comfortable again.
So what’s the point of all this?
Well, several things:
- Don’t attempt to work in extreme heat, our bodies are not made for this.
- Stay hydrated.
- Know what to do in the case of a heat stroke
Had we not had our awesome HVAC technician there, we could have been in some serious trouble. Luckily he kept his cool and knew exactly what to do to treat our friend.
At the end of the day, we have to thank the best air conditioning repair in Manassas, Virginia for their help.
